Q: What is the sentence for Drug Trafficking cannabis?
A: Drug Trafficking charges are an extremely serious offense. Very few crimes in Florida have a mandatory prison sentence included in the law and drug trafficking is one of those offenses. Drug Trafficking has nothing to do with selling or delivering of a drug. Drug Trafficking sentences for cannabis are based on the weight of the drug possessed or the number of plants possessed by the defendant. Drug Trafficking is a first degree felony punishable by up to 30 years in Florida State Prison. The required weight and sentences imposed for drug trafficking cannabis are:
• 3 year mandatory prison and $25,000 fine – more than 25 pounds but less than 2000 pounds of cannabis.
• 7 year mandatory prison and $50,000 fine – 2000 pounds or more but less than 10,000 pounds of cannabis.
• 15 year mandatory prison and $200,000 fine – 10,000 pounds or more of cannabis.
