I was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) while I was on vacation in Florida. Do I need to attend my court dates?

You’ve got so many questions. We’ll give you answers.

Q: I was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) while I was on vacation in Florida. Do I need to attend my court dates?

A: Yes, you need to attend your court dates even though you are from out of town or out of state.  However, your lawyer may file a waiver of appearance, which allows your lawyer to attend in your place for future court dates.  Certain judges take issue with a DUI defendant who does not appear in person but an experienced criminal defense lawyer will be able to give you a good idea about whether your particular judge will have a problem with this.
